The National Pledge to End Racism Initiative
Take the Pledge to End Racism

I BELIEVE that every person has worth as an individual.
I BELIEVE that every person is entitled to dignity and respect, regardless of race or color.
I BELIEVE that every thought and every act of racial prejudice is harmful; if it is my thought or act, then it is harmful to me as well as to others.
Therefore, from this day forward:
I WILL strive daily to eliminate racial prejudice from my thoughts and actions.
I WILL discourage racial prejudice by others at every opportunity.
I WILL treat all people with dignity and respect.
I WILL commit to working with others to transform the Greater Richmond region into a place that treats people of all races, ethnicities, and cultures with justice, equity, and compassion, and
I WILL strive daily to honor this pledge, knowing that the world will be a better place because of my effort.

  • helping to leverage the diverse strengths available across a consortium of racial justice aware congregations and organizations

The Living the Pledge Workshop

In order to make the Pledge to End Racism something that becomes an integral part of our daily lives, we’ve designed a workshop for individuals to reflect, learn, and practice how to develop and maintain their anti-racism commitment. The goals include:

  • Learning how to confront racism and bias in everyday encounters;
  • Recognizing and challenging systemic racism; and
  • Taking on a personal leadership role in ending racism in their community.

There are various ways someone could get involved with this anti- racism movement. Here are a few ideas.

First, contact us to see if there are others in your area that are engaging with the Pledge (or considering it) and we’ll put you in touch. Next, sign the Pledge and encourage others you know to do the same. Use the resources on our site to make the Pledge to End Racism part of your daily living.

As you engage with anti-racism work in your community, you may identify a potential partner to help you bring the Pledge to your town and can put them in touch with us.
